Enjoy a Beach Day at Bde Maka Ska

Make the most out of this beautiful summer with a trip down to the lake.

It’s practically a Minnesota rule that everyone needs to enjoy lakeside views in the summer. Bde Maka Ska, the largest lake in Minneapolis, offers plenty of options to enjoy a day at the beach, whether you want to lounge on the sand or kayak on the water. Don’t forget your sunscreen!

Hit the Beach

A quarter of Minneapolis Park’s beaches sit along Bde Maka Ska, offering plenty of opportunities to enjoy the sun and start a beach read. Thomas Beach, North Beach and 32nd Street Beach all feature space to lounge and dip your toes in the water.

Trails

Take in the beautiful view of both the water and the city from the paths around the lake. With a little over three miles of walking and bike trails, there’s plenty to see while getting some fresh air and exercise in. Plus, you can go at your own pace and take advantage of nearby benches to rest and admire the landscape.

On the Water

Looking to get the full lake experience? You can bring your own watercraft or rent canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards and paddle boats for an hourly rate. And as a bonus, all rentals are pet-friendly so you can bring your pup along.

Pack a Picnic

Grassy areas, benches and picnic tables near the trails make Bde Maka Ska an ideal spot for a family picnic. Bring your own food or get take-out from one of the nearby restaurants.
