Video calls aren’t just for work meetings and tech experts. These days, they’re an easy way checking in with your doctor via telehealth appointment or chatting with your grandkids across the country, virtual meetings help bring connection right to your screen.

If you’re not sure where to begin, you’re not alone. But getting started is easier than you think. Here’s how you can make video calls work for you:

Join with one click
Most virtual meetings start with an email or text invitation. Click the link when you’re ready to join. If it’s your first time, you may need to download a free app like Zoom or Google Meet. Ask a friend or family member to help if you’re unsure — and be sure to give yourself a few extra minutes before the call to get settled.

Use your device’s video and audio
You’ll see a message pop up asking you to enable the use of your microphone and camera. Seeing and hearing each other is what makes video calls feel more personal, but you can always mute yourself or turn off the camera when needed.
