Prescription drugs are grouped in cost tiers

The drug lists use tiered pricing. Tiers group drugs into different cost levels. (Higher-cost drugs are in higher tier numbers.) The tiers vary based on whether a plan works with a health savings account (HSA). The Aware Network and High Value Network plans have HSA and non-HSA plans.

Drug cost tiers for non-HSA plans:

  1. Generally includes preferred generics. May include some brand-name drugs.
  2. Generally includes preferred brand-name drugs. May include some higher-cost preferred generics.
  3. Includes both non-preferred and brand-name and generic drugs.
  4. Specialty drugs
  5. Not applicable

Drug cost tiers for HSA plans:

  1. Includes only drugs identified on the BasicRx Small Group HSA preventive drug list.
  2. Generally includes preferred generics. May include some preferred brand-name drugs.
  3. Generally includes non-preferred brand-name drugs. May include some higher-cost non-preferred generics.
  4. Includes both brand-name and generic drugs.
  5. Specialty drugs
