### What are Child and Teen Checkups?

Child and Teen Checkups are part of the Early Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment (EPSDT) program in Minnesota. This is a federal program for children and teens from birth through age 20, and who are eligible for Medical Assistance (Medicaid). It helps ensure they are meeting growth and developmental milestones with regular checkups and immunizations (shots).

## What can I expect at a Child and Teen Checkup?

These visits are a chance for you to ask questions and get answers about your child’s or your own health (teens). During a Child and Teen Checkup (C&TC) visit, the doctor will do things like:

- Check height, weight, development and growth
- Make sure immunizations are up-to-date
- Provide dental, hearing and vision screenings
- Blood lead testing
- Discuss healthy eating, safety tips and general healthcare
- Talk about how to manage stress, as well as social and learning issues
- Talk about the risks of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco use (teens)
- And much more, depending on your child's or your own needs (teens)

## Screening schedule

## Schedule of age-related screening and immunization standards

Every child and teen who is a Minnesota Health Care Programs member is recommended to have a Child and Teen Checkups visit at these ages:



 

### Infants

**Age group:** 0-11 months

**Check-ups by age:** 0, 1, 2, 4, 6, 9 months



 

 

 



### Early Childhood

**Age group:** 12 months to 4 years

**Checkups by age:** 12, 15, 18, 24, 30 months, 3-4 years (once per year)



 

 

 



### Middle Childhood

**Age group:** 5-10 years

**Checkups by age:** 5-10 years (once per year)



 

 

 



### Adolescence

**Age group:** 11-20 years

### Immunizations

It is important for your child to get immunized before they become exposed to potentially life-threatening diseases. Your (teens) doctor will talk about vaccines in your yearly wellness checks.

Review the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) schedules below to learn when your child should get immunized.
