What is Medicare Part D?
Prescription drugs can be expensive, and Original Medicare usually doesn’t provide coverage. A Medicare Part D plan is a stand-alone prescription drug plan that helps pay for prescription drugs that are not covered by Original Medicare.
You can enroll in MedicareBlueSM Rx if you:
- Have Medicare Part A, Part B, or both
- Live in the plan availability area

MedicareBlueSM Rx
Our MedicareBlue Rx (PDP) plans offer three different levels of coverage and cost sharing – the Select plan, the Standard plan and the Premier plan. Each plan pays a different amount toward prescription drugs. The right plan for you depends on how many drugs you take and the cost of those drugs.
MedicareBlue Rx is available throughout Minnesota. It can be paired with a medical-only plan like a Medicare supplement plan or a Cost plan.
Other Part D plan options from Blue Cross
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota offers several plans that cover prescription drugs. These plans combine medical and Part D coverage in one plan:
Platinum BlueSM (Cost) with Rx
Blue Cross Medicare Advantage (PPO)
