Blue Plus earns 5-star rating for Minnesota Senior Health Options plan

All four Blue Cross and Blue Plus Medicare plans earn 4.5 stars or higher

EAGAN, Minn. (October 12, 2021) – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota (Blue Cross) and Blue Plus today announced that its SecureBlueSM (HMO SNP) Minnesota Senior Health Options plan achieved a 5-star quality rating out of five stars for 2022 from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Additionally, Blue Cross achieved a 4.5-star rating out of five stars for its 2022 Medicare Advantage plans, Platinum BlueSM Cost plans and MedicareBlueSM Rx Part D plans.

“Providing top quality Medicare plans that Minnesota seniors can count on is a priority at Blue Cross,” said Monica Engel, senior vice president at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota and CEO of Blue Plus. "By championing member needs and pursuing excellence in execution, our plans have maintained 4-star or better since we created the Star and Risk Adjustment Center of Excellence in 2015.”

Every year, Medicare evaluates Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug (Part D) plans based on a 5-star rating system across a series of quality performance measures, including appropriate clinical care, health outcomes, member experience, health plan administration and customer service. Ratings range from one to five stars, with five being the highest.

The mission of the Star and Risk Adjustment Center of Excellence is to drive health plan quality to new heights each year through its focus on provider engagement, member experience with Blue Cross and their providers, health improvement programs, administrative excellence and data analytics. 2022 Star Ratings are based on services and care members received in 2020 and measures are graded on a curve relative to other plan’s performance that year.
