Senior vice president of provider collaboration
As senior vice president of provider collaboration, Garrett Black leads Blue Cross’ initiative to create a high performing health care system for Blue Cross members offering affordable, high quality care and optimal customer experiences via new forms of provider collaboration. These provider collaborations will result in new products, innovative care delivery and payment models, and integrated care management and health and wellness programs.
Black joined Blue Cross in 2010 as vice president of network management, leading the overall development and implementation of Blue Cross’ provider relationship, contracting and accountable care strategy. In 2012, Black was promoted to senior vice president of health management, leading network management, health economics, medical affairs and integrated health management.
Immediately prior to Blue Cross, Black served as chief strategy officer for Children’s Hospitals & Clinics of Minnesota. Before his work at Children’s, Black was system director for strategic development at Allina Health. Black’s experience also includes seven years in consulting where he advised hospitals, physician practices and integrated care delivery systems across the country on strategy, service development and financial planning.
Black currently serves as Chair of the Multi-Payer Alignment Task Force associated with Minnesota’s Accountable Health Model initiative. He also serves on the board of the Mentoring Partnership of Minnesota.
Black earned his bachelor’s degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee and holds both an MBA and an MHA from the University of Minnesota.
