Blue Cross wins “Superstar Award” for Healthcare University program

The Institute for Healthcare Consumerism (IHC) recognized Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota with a 2013 Superstar Award. The award was given for the successful pilot of Healthcare University, an employee benefits education program created by Change Healthcare.

Program teaches basics of health care

Healthcare University uses videos, quizzes and arcade-style games to teach the basics of health care. It also teaches how to make choices weighing quality, cost and convenience. Course subjects are health insurance basics, benefits selection, billing and ways to save.

Successful pilot at Blue Cross

The new program was piloted with Blue Cross employees last summer.

“Our goal was to recruit 20 percent of our employees to Healthcare University, but registration rates exceeded that target by 90 percent. Each user completed an average of eight courses,” said Diane Pozdolski, vice president of compensation, benefits and HRIS at Blue Cross.  “In a satisfaction survey, users awarded the platform an A- for overall satisfaction.”
