Senior vice president, business development
As senior vice president of business development, David (Dave) Spalding oversees affiliate companies, business development, revenue diversification, and innovation initiatives. Prior to being appointed senior vice president in 2012, Spalding spent the previous five years as president and CEO of SelectAccount, a national medical-savings account administrator and custodian integrated with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota.
Spalding first joined Blue Cross in 2002 to lead business development activities, including mergers and acquisitions, alliance management and strategic partnerships. As vice president of business development in 2005, he led the sale of the Atrium Health Plan to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Wisconsin and the divestiture of behavioral health clinics for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota. Spalding’s career also includes nearly a decade of experience in corporate banking, primarily at Bank of America.
Spalding has an international MBA from Thunderbird and a liberal arts bachelor degree from the State University of New York at Albany. He currently serves as a director and board chair for Comunidades Latinas Unidas En Servicio (“CLUES”), a Minnesota-based, Latino-oriented social services organization.
