About clinic site visits

Clinics include primary care, OB/GYN, and mental health clinics.

When is an initial site visit required?

Initial site visits are required at Primary Care (Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Pediatric), Open Access OB/GYN, and potential high volume Mental Health clinics that do not have a history of compliance with Blue Cross Credentialing site visit standards. This includes providers new to our health plan and new clinics affiliated with organizations having a record of noncompliance.

What will be reviewed during the site visit?

The site visit form will be emailed or faxed to the clinic prior to the site visit, so the provider can review the requirements. Some of the areas reviewed are Physical Environment, Policies/Procedures, Quality Improvement and Record Keeping Practices.

What if the clinic is missing some of the required policies?

Blue Cross has clinic policy templates that can be emailed to assist the clinic in developing policies. These templates are also available on the website in the Blue Plus Provider Manual.

How soon will the site visit be scheduled?

When the clinic can meet the requirements, the site visit will be scheduled.
