Take charge of your health this year — use your preventive care coverage
It’s important for everyone to get the health care they need. Preventive care, which includes services like yearly checkups, screenings and flu shots, can help you stay healthy and avoid or delay health problems.
See the list of preventive care guidelines (PDF) to learn which services are covered for most Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota members. The Affordable Care Act, passed in 2010, adopts these preventive care guidelines to make it easier for people to get preventive care. The law expands the types of preventive care covered 100% by your health plan or your Medicare plan.
Most Blue Cross health plans and Medicare plans include preventive care services covered at 100% without a copay, coinsurance or deductible. However, some plans are not required to offer preventive care coverage under the law. Before you make an appointment for preventive care services, it’s important that you understand what’s covered in your plan. If you’re a Blue Cross member, refer to your plan materials or call the number on the back of your member ID card.
