MN temporary health insurance, what to consider
COBRA coverage: If you’ve lost health insurance coverage through an employer, you may be eligible for COBRA coverage. Depending on your situation, this coverage is based on a law that helps you maintain the coverage your employer offered. You’ll be responsible for the full cost of the premium, plus an administrative fee. And you’ll need to sign up for the coverage within 60 days of losing your job. This coverage is transitory – possibly up to 36 months, depending on your situation.
Short term coverage: Some private health plans, including Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, offer short-term coverage policies for periods such as 30, 60 and 90 days. These work well for people who, for example, know they’ll be eligible for a group plan or other coverage soon.
Traditional health insurance: You may also find a regular plan that meets your needs for temporary coverage – and beyond. For example, Simply Blue, a new kind of health plan from Blue Cross, is affordable and includes special features attractive to individuals with short term coverage needs.
