Meet an insider

Information technology specialists, like application developers, often request upgrades to software, servers and other technology to help them get their projects done. Our Senior Release and Change Manager has the job of managing these requests.

“Part of this requires an understanding of the impact and risks of a request before approving it, in order to avoid problems or outages. I also work to develop policies and procedures for how to handle future requests as new technologies, systems and applications become available.”

What’s my day like?

My team handles around 1,000 change requests each month. We meet every morning to review what’s changed in the past 24 hours and if any problems have occurred, then talk about what’s coming for the next 24 hours. We work very much on a day-to-day basis — things can change quickly. I have to be at the ready, because I’m sometimes paged if there’s a problem.

Flexible hours

Because I’m on call, I appreciate that Blue Cross gives me flexibility in my hours. It feels good to know they trust that I will do my job well and I’ll be ready when I’m needed.

A learning arena

Blue Cross encourages us to continue our education, which is critical when you’re working in the world of technology. Blue Cross University sponsors classes on site – a convenient way for us to stay up-to-date, yet still be available when needed. I find it challenging to work for an organization where there’s so much to learn and do.”
