Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota

Health Management

Overview

No doubt you’ve heard us say, “Life. Live it well.” It’s what we believe. Blue Cross is able to stand behind that statement, thanks to the drive, talent and skills of our Health Management division. They’re the group responsible for creating disease management programs that help people manage chronic conditions. They’re also the team that translates information about health care use into strategies for encouraging providers to deliver quality care and members to take charge of their health.

Improving member health and member satisfaction is at the heart of Health Management’s activities. By collaborating with members, providers and employers to develop, coordinate and review benefits and health care services, this group is constantly seeking new ways to maximize health and functional outcomes.

Health management is organized by the following functions:

  • Consumer health — this area includes provider relations and integrated care management (disease management and case management).
  • Population health — you’ll find health care improvement, quality improvement, operations development, health literacy, wellness and health promotion. In addition, the Center for Prevention focuses on improving the health of all Minnesotans by tackling Minnesota’s leading killers: tobacco use, physical inactivity and unhealthy eating. (The Center for Prevention is detailed as a separate career area.)
  • Government programs — we contribute to Minnesota Senior Health Options and the regional Medicare PPO and Medicaid programs.
  • Health benefits — this area encompasses behavioral health operations, utilization management, health care management.

Skills we value

We’re always in the market for good people with solid professional skills, particularly those who are licensed or experienced in a clinical capacity. The Health Management division has positions that require trained and licensed clinical staff, as well as non-clinical business professionals, wellness and health promotion professionals, and health educators.

Some of the positions in this area require licensure in a health or behavioral health profession, R.N. licensure or some clinical experience. The Case Managers are licensed clinicians who have either obtained a Certified Case Manager (CCM) designation or are in the process of doing so.
