Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota

Government Programs

Overview

Blue Cross believes that our responsibility as a nonprofit health plan includes providing options for those who can’t afford health care on their own. That’s why we choose to work in conjunction with the local and Federal government to provide benefits to the elderly, very ill and less fortunate people in Minnesota.

Government Programs is an independent division that focuses on providing health care coverage to groups of people through publicly funded health care programs. This includes Medicare, medical assistance, the National Federal Employees Program and others. We develop health plans that work in conjunction with public health programs, and market these plans as appropriate.

Government Programs employs positions in the following disciplines:

  • Finance — managing budgets and financial information
  • Sales & marketing — helping to position and sell plans (as appropriate)
  • Operations — managing programs and working with government purchasing
  • Community outreach — working with ethnic and advocacy groups to better understand the scope of their needs and expectations
  • Compliance — meeting government requirements of health plans offered through public programs

Skills we value

A variety of disciplines are needed in the Government Programs division, requiring various skill sets from finance to marketing. Generally, we’re looking for people who are creative and have a passion for problem-solving. Attention to detail is a critical skill for anyone working in this division, as public programs and health plans require strict compliance with national and state government agencies.
