As a program officer for the Blue Cross Foundation, Jocelyn Ancheta serves as a liaison between the Foundation and the community. She works directly with community leaders and nonprofit organizations to help the Foundation determine where to award grants. In this role, she’s an integral part of the Foundation’s “Healthy Together: Creating Community with New Americans” program, a multi-million dollar portfolio of funds devoted to improving health and social connectedness for immigrant and refugee populations.
Giving back
As an immigrant myself, I understand what it’s like to adjust to a new home in a new country. I was drawn to social work out of college, working in the field for several charities before my work with the Foundation.
My day is about communicating
You’ll often find me on the phone fielding questions from current and potential grantees, or talking to community leaders or other foundations to learn more about a potential grantee. I organize educational seminars and networking events aimed at fostering the success of grantees. Depending on the funding cycle, I may be reviewing and researching grant applications or out in the community visiting current and potential grantees on-site.
