Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota

The Foundation

Overview

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota Foundation plays a key role in how Blue Cross delivers on its promise to make a healthy difference in people’s lives. Recognizing that health is shaped by a variety of influences, our purpose is to look beyond health care today for ideas that create healthier communities tomorrow.

By addressing key social, economic and environmental factors that determine health — beyond genes, lifestyle and access to health care — we work to improve community health long-term and close the health gap that affects many Minnesotans.

Be a part of improving health at the community level

As a statewide corporate health philanthropy, the Blue Cross Foundation seeks to support the work of organizations throughout Minnesota that share our priorities. We fund a wide range of organizations, including:

  • community-based organizations
  • faith-based organizations
  • state, county and municipal agencies
  • tribal governments and agencies
  • professional associations or collaboratives
  • policy and research organizations

Applicants must be located in Minnesota or serve Minnesotans. In addition, we foster shared learning by facilitating educational and networking opportunities.

The Foundation consists of three main areas:

  • Program officers — serve as liaisons between the state’s nonprofit and government organizations and the Foundation. They help develop funding programs, and support applicants and grantees during and after the grant-giving cycle.
  • Communications — develop strategies for telling our key audiences about our programs and facilitating shared learning.
  • Operations — manage information systems and provide administrative support for all areas of the Foundation.

Skills we value

The Foundation requires great relationship building, listening and communication skills as well as an understanding of philanthropy and the community dynamics in which it works. If you like meeting with people and organizing events that bring people together, you’ll enjoy working for the Foundation. A helpful attitude and a desire to help strengthen communities in need is a must.
