Blue Cross’ long-term goal is to improve the health of all Minnesotans by tackling Minnesota’s leading killers: tobacco use, physical inactivity and unhealthy eating. To take these issues on, we need passionate, persistent people who are not afraid to try new things.
Be on the cutting edge of changes in health care
The Center for Prevention is a department in Blue Cross’ Health Management Division. The Center was established in 1998 following Blue Cross’ historic lawsuit against the tobacco industry. At the Center, we focus on changing awareness, attitudes, and behaviors.
The Center develops and leads creative programs like the do campaign, which encourages people to increase physical activity by “grooving their body 10 minutes 3 times a day.” The Center also looks at current Blue Cross programs to learn how they can work together toward the same goals.
The Center for Prevention has four teams:
- Community initiatives — using policy change and community funding to change the environments that help people change behavior (for example, smoke-free restaurants and bars protect workers’ health and also help people stop smoking).
- Clinical initiatives — working with members, providers, and workplaces to support behavior change
- Research and evaluation — charged with the ongoing evaluation of current programs and initiatives
- Strategic planning and communications — oversee long-range planning and public awareness campaigns; also charged with communicating what the Center is doing
Skills we value
If you like team collaboration and coming up with out-of-the-box ideas, you’ll be right at home working for the Center for Prevention. We value creativity, research and evaluation skills, and project management skills.
