Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota

Claims

Overview

Are you good with numbers? Detail oriented? Do you like to review data and dig for the facts in a quiet work environment? If you’re all about accuracy, a job in claims could be a good fit. We need flexible people who can work independently and have good computer and data entry skills.

You’ll review insurance claims for health care services to make sure they have the needed information and codes, and you’ll seek out any missing information. It will be your job to make sure claims are properly paid and providers credited on a timely basis that meets both Blue Cross and regulatory standards.

Metro area and Iron Range locations

Blue Cross has claims operations in multiple sites in Minnesota, including Eagan, Virginia and Aurora.

Claims teams are organized around lines of business, processing claims and handling adjustments for: national accounts, local and regional accounts, government and State of Minnesota accounts, and for the Federal Employee Program. Functional areas include payment, application development and claims operations.

Extensive paid training

Before you begin your claims career, you’ll participate in 6 to 8 weeks of new hire training, including classroom and on-the-floor training. Once you’re a regular working member of the claims team, you’ll have opportunities for additional training, too. What’s more, you can train for advanced positions based on your abilities and business needs.

Roles

Opportunities in the claims department are available for:

  • Claims examiners
  • Supervisors
  • Technical specialists
  • Business analysts

Skills we value

The best candidates will be motivated by personal and team performance goals and will be comfortable working independently. It’s also important to have an understanding of and value the broader goals of the division. You may have some contact with providers and, of course, your claims team.

You should enjoy learning and working with computer applications, as you will be doing this for long periods. You’ll learn Blue Cross’ proprietary mainframe system. A customer service orientation and problem-solving skills are highly valued. Knowledge of medical terminology and CPT coding is a plus.
