Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota

Standard benefits

The Blue Cross benefit package gives you the flexibility and choices you want. Choose coverage options in the following plans:

Medical coverage

Choose from three plans, each with a different level of employee contribution:

  • A plan that pays 100 percent of most medical costs, with small copays for some expenses
  • A plan that works with a company-provided health reimbursement account. After your deductible, the plan pays 100 percent for some expenses and 80 percent for most others.
  • A plan with a high deductible that works with a health savings account. After you pay your deductible, the plan pays 100 percent of eligible medical expenses.

Dental coverage

Choose from two dental plans. Both include 100 percent coverage for preventive care. The plans pay various amounts depending on the services you receive.

Life insurance

You’ll receive life insurance equal to your annual pay or $50,000, whichever is greater. And you can buy additional coverage for you and your family.

Flexible spending accounts

With our convenient medical and dependent-care spending accounts, you can save by setting aside pre-tax dollars for eligible expenses each year.

Disability protection

Our long-term and short-term disability options protect your income if you can’t work because of an illness or injury.

Retirement and savings benefits

Blue Cross offers many ways to help plan for your future financial security:

  • Our 401(k) plan lets you save up to 25 percent of your pay through payroll deduction (subject to IRS limitations)
  • Blue Cross matches “dollar for dollar” up to the first 3 percent you contribute to the 401(k) plan. We then match 50 cents on the dollar for the next 2 percent. You’re immediately vested in the company match.
  • Employees 50 and older may be eligible to make additional catch-up contributions to the 401(k) plan
  • Employees receive an annual retirement contribution of 2 percent to their 401(k) plan account each spring. The contribution is automatically invested in the 401(k) plan whether employees contribute personal funds to the plan or not. Employees become vested in this annual retirement contribution after three years of service.
  • For employees who meet age and service requirements, we also offer a retiree medical plan.
