A new children’s book from the Center for Prevention helps make conversations about eating healthy easier for parents and more fun for kids.
EAGAN, MINN. (February 13, 2013) – Parents can play a fundamental role in teaching their kids how to make nutritious food choices. What they may lack are the tools to start the conversation. That’s why Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota (Blue Cross) is introducing “My Chat with Chewie” – a brightly illustrated children’s book that makes discussions about healthy food easy and fun.
Available as a downloadable e-book, “My Chat with Chewie”:
The book is available at www.mychatwithchewie.com, where families can also play a fruit and vegetable matching game and get more healthy eating tips.
Starting these conversations now is essential. More than 62 percent of adult Minnesotans are overweight or obese, which puts them at an increased risk for high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, osteoarthritis and colon cancer, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Unless something changes, Minnesota kids risk facing the same fate. Tools like this book can help parents have conversations that lead to better choices.
